Interview with Neil Maskell, the director of the film “Klokkenluider”, interviewer Malaika Bova
"What changed and shifted in the process of writing was all structural really, because the characters were always alive and there in my head. And whichever direction structurally, descriptive or plot wise, or the idea descriptively it shifted - I could start writing and hear them under no circumstances." - Neil Maskell.
A gentle government official discovers terrible secrets and decides to let the world know about it. Hiding in a secluded Belgian country house, he and his Dutch wife, accompanied by two eccentric bodyguards, anxiously wait for the arrival of a British journalist.
In his youth, Neil Maskell took part in Anna Scher Theare’s drama club in Islington: an experience he still considers very important in forging his character.
Neil Maskell’s acting career has spanned for thirty years, but his breakthrough role came in 2011, when he was cast in Ben Wheatley’s “Kill List” as hitman Jay. It might be less known that Maskell has been writing various scripts for years and has always wanted to direct movies. As a writer and director of “Klokkenluider”, he has finally taken his first step on that road.
