Interview with Sudhanshu Saria the director of “Sanaa” and leading acress Radhika Madan, interviewer Andrei Liimets
"The goal was always to be empathetic, pay attention, listen and truly allow the many contradictions and complications of femalehood to come through." - Sudhanshu Saria
Indian director Sudhanshu Saria is back at PÖFF! He has now found inspiration from the untraditionally strong Indian women and their desire to themselves decide on their life in the wave of the #MeToo initiative. This time it’s a story of rather a passionate desire of a rational young woman to shape her life. Her decisions are influenced by a blinding wish to prove to her mother that she needs no one’s help. Through painful experiences in which the viewers intimately partake, she instead comes to understand her mother.
Sudhanshu Saria is an Indian filmmaker. Born in the tea estates of Darjeeling, India, and studied film and photography in New York. His first feature film "Loev" premiered in the PÖFF debut film competition programme in 2015. Saria has also directed short films and drama series. He finds female characters to be a very under-represented spectrum in Indian pop culture and contributes to changing it with his work.
Radhika Madan plays the titular character in Sanaa. The Indian actress has played in movies and TV series, and has won many awards. Before becoming an actress, Radhika was a dancer.
