"Interview with Santiago Mohar Volkow, director and screenwriter of the movie Good Savage, interviewer Javier Garcia Puerto
"
"Mohar Volkow is an award-winning filmmaker living and working in Mexico. He has also worked as a screenwriter and co-producer on various projects.
Good Savage is his second feature film. In total, he has made three full-length films, one of which is an award-winning documentary called ""Sísifos"". It was inspired by the incoming mass of people from the US to Mexico during the pandemic. The director explains that at one point when he went out to eat, he started hearing more English than Spanish and realized that it was an overarching trend. These people saw his country as a kind of land without rules and seemed at the same time naive and condescending to Volkow.
In ""Good Savage"" a young American couple with marital difficulties decides to move to Mexico, but the country is not what they had expected. Crime, comedy and a love of underground cinema mix in an unusual story that offers a sharp and satirical perspective on contemporary cultural dynamics.
""It's all about those games of what we expect from each other culturally.""
