Interview with Artūras Jevdokimovas, the director and co-writer of "Life and Death of a Christmas Tree", interviewer Edvinas Pukšta
"A ducumentary that will let you touch the global world through a Christmas tree's life cycle.
The Latvian director Jevdokimovas’s first feature film was a documentary about four Latvians, their second-hand clothes business, and life in England. An interest in the effect foreign countries and cultures have on people who have gotten the short end of the stick continues in his next feature. “The Life and Death of a Christmas Tree” tells us about Christmas trees and the countries, and the people who play a role in raising them. Spruces that are sold all over Europe as “produced in Denmark” are grown from seeds imported from Georgia. We see a Georgian village where the seeds are picked from the trees and a work accident ends in death and the seeds’ journey to Denmark, where they are raised into trees over five years. Although both communities are in the Christmas Tree business, their everyday lives, joys, and sorrows are different as night and day.
In addition to filmmaking, Jevdokimovas is very experienced in organizing film- and music events and even throwing festivals.
