"Summer has begun and 13-year-old Walter has just lost his father. While wandering around the picturesque Roman coast, he discovers a shark swimming seemingly in an abandoned villa's pool. Thinking about his father, who was a cold-blooded bandit in his youth, he comes to the conclusion that if he wants to succeed in life, he must be like the shark - bold and merciless…
Davide Gentile has primarily been involved in documentary films and advertisements so far. His work is marked by his great ability to shape characters and personalities in a unique way, delivering some amazing representations of every day’s slices of life. Valerio Cilio and Gianluca Leoncini began writing the screenplay for ""My summer with the shark"" nine years ago, and in 2014, they won the Solinas Award for it.
It is also Davide's first feature film. He has said that the producer Gabriele Mainetti was searching for the right director for a long time. In fact, there were 7-8 candidates over the course of 7 years, of which only Davide Gentile ultimately passed the test. Thus, this complex film is a unique combination of a first-time director, a first-time producer and two first-time actors. And the risk definitely paid off.
