Interview with Boaz Yakin, director and screenwriter of the movie Once Again (for the very first time), interviewer Edvinas Pukšta
"Having directed the nostalgic childhood film Uptown Girls, written the magical and captivating screenplay for Now You See Me and being the executive producer of the famous ""torture porn"" franchise Hostel - Boaz Yakin has done a lot.
After Remember the Titans, Yakin was the hottest director that everyone in Hollywood wanted to work with. He was offered huge films but realized that if he did that, he would soon not remember how to be the creative person he wanted to be. Therefore, his career has also struggled between big studio films and intimate independent films that explore human nature.
His new film Once Again (for the very first time) is a musical indie film with a great American soul. It tells the story of DeRay, a rapper who has been severely punished for murder and is not afraid of anything or anyone. He is in a place in his life where he wants to go over all of its important highlights and also really misses love.
“None of it is meant to be seen as realistic, right, it’s a metaphor.” - Boaz Yakin
